    Our Pet List

    ABOUT

The North Kingstown Dog Pound is a division of the North Kingstown Police Department. We take in a wide variety of animals, mainly cats and dogs, but at any given time you may also find birds, rabbits, snakes, or other small pets such as guinea pigs. Please check back with us regularly to see who is currently staying with us!

    MISSION

Our mission is to provide a healthy, safe, and caring environment for each animal in our keeping, and ultimately to place them in loving “forever homes.” We fulfill our mission by ensuring that each animal is spayed or neutered prior to adoption, and also by providing other medical care and comfort items for the animals.

    SPAY & NEUTER

Spaying or neutering your cat is now required by law! Information on this new law can be found here. You may also qualify for low cost spay and neuter procedures. To learn more, see the information below.

Low Cost Spay & Neuter Clinics

These Low Cost Spay & Neuter Clinics are offered locally by the Salmon River Vet Clinic. Appointments are required! It is $65 per cat (cash only; includes rabies and distemper shots if needed). No food for the cats after midnight the night before. Bring cats in separate carriers. Arrive between 8:30-9:00 a.m. Pick up between 2:30-3:30 p.m. Dates and towns are listed; for information on specific locations, and to see if you qualify, please call the Salmon River Vet Clinic at (401) 793-0092.

    ONGOING FUNDRAISERS

    PetLuv Bracelets

Ellen Kindstedt's unique custom-engraved cuff bracelets serve either as a living tribute, or to commemorate a beloved animal companion. Paw prints or horseshoes can be embedded on the ends of cuffs for dogs, cats, or horses. Simply mention that you saw her bracelets through our website, and the NK Dog Pound will receive a 5% donation from the sale of your bracelet! For more information, please visit Ellen's website at petluvbracelets.com.

    Goldendoodle

Cost is $10; all proceeds benefit the Friends of the North Kingstown Dog Pound

This is a book from the Kennel Club's "Designer Dog" series. If you have been thinking about adopting a Goldendoodle (or even buying one), this is an excellent reference! "Goldendoodle" can be purchased at:

The North Kingstown Dog Pound - Hamilton Allenton Road, North Kingstown, RI 02852
The North Kingstown Animal Hospital - 3636 Quaker Lane, North Kingstown, RI 02852

    GoodSearch

Please use www.goodsearch.com for all your internet searches. When you do, simply designate “Friends of the North Kingstown Dog Pound,” and we will receive a donation of one cent each time you use it!

    Cash For Critters

This program helps raise money for the animals, and it's also good for the environment! Please recycle your old ink jet cartridges, laser printer cartridges, or digital cell phones (working or not). They can be dropped off at the following locations:

    North Kingstown Dog Pound
    North Kingstown Town Hall Annex
    North Kingstown Police Station
    North Kingstown YMCA
    Critter Hut, North Kingstown
    The Gatherings, North Kingstown

There are more than 250 different ink jets on the market; we can turn most of them in for cash. However, there are a few styles we cannot send for payment (for instance, we cannot accept any cartridge that has a sticker showing it has previously been recycled). If you can't drop off your used cartridges, save them till you have a few, then call us at 294-6899, and we will arrange for a pickup.

    DONATIONS

"Friends of the North Kingstown Dog Pound"

Friends of the North Kingstown Dog Pound is a non-profit organization founded to help the animals at the pound. Donations we receive this year will:

  • Reduce spay/neuter expenses
  • Support pets' medical needs
  • Improve the shelter, making our pets more comfortable in extreme weather conditions. We are now installing AC to keep the dog runs cool in summer.
  • Enhance playtime! Donations help to pay for toys for indoor pets, and we are currently designing a perennial "dog garden" for our dogs to enjoy while outside.

If you would like to contribute to these efforts, please send a check to:

Friends of the North Kingstown Dog Pound
    105 Narragansett St. Rd
    North Kingstown, R.I. 02852

    Plant Donations

Our shelter could really use some beautifying! We are planning a perennial "dog garden" with the help of some volunteers from the URI Master Gardeners program. We are now looking for a few kind people to donate some plants. This is a great opportunity to improve the quality of our animals' lives. If you are interested in donating plants, or would like more information on the "dog garden," please email Russ Shabo.

    Laptop Donation

If you have a usable laptop that is in good condition, and are upgrading to a newer model, please consider donating your old laptop to Friends of the North Kingstown Dog Pound. We could really use one!

All donations are tax deductible. You may also donate through the United Way.
